Scale your spreadsheet to fit on one page when printing from Excel.

Printing from Excel can be very frustrating, especially if your spreadsheet is too wide or too tall to fit on a single page.
You can use the Scaling option in Page Setup to set limits on how many pages wide and tall your document should be when you print it. The problem with that is that you can find your page fits onto one page, but becomes too small to read. Not only that, but Excel ignores any manual page breaks you've entered. This lesson explains how you can print your spreadsheet so it automatically scales to be one page wide without forcing the rows into a single page.
Scaling your spreadsheet when printing
You can use the Scaling option in Page Setup to set limits on how many pages wide and tall your document should be when you print it.
If you're using Excel 2010
  1. Click the Page Layout tab.
  2. Set the Scale to Fit options for Width and Height to the values you want.
  3. Print your spreadsheet.
If you're using Excel 2007 and earlier for PC, or Excel for Mac 2008 or 2011
  1. Open Page Layout
  2. In Excel 2007, click the Page Layout tab, then click the small arrow in the bottom right corner of the Page Setup group (this also works for Excel 2010 as an alternative to the instructions above)
  3. In earlier versions of Excel, and for Excel 2008 and 2011 for Mac, click File, then Page Setup.
  4. Enter the number of pages wide and tall you want your spreadsheet to be when printed. For example, you may choose to set your spreadsheet to be 1 page wide and 2 pages tall when printed.
  5. Print your spreadsheet.
The problem with this approach is that you can find your spreadsheet is scaled down too far and becomes too small to read. Not only that, but Excel ignores any manual page breaks you've entered.
Scaling an Excel spreadsheet to a specific number of pages
Suppose you want your Excel spreadsheet to print out one page wide, but you don't mind how many pages tall the print out is. It could also be that you have horizontal page breaks that you want to keep when you print your spreadsheet.
Scaling to Fit in Excel 2010 (method 1)
  1. Click the Page Layout tab.
  2. Set the Scale to Fit option for Width to be 1 page.
  3. Set the Scale to Fit option for Height to be Automatic.
  4. Print your spreadsheet.
Scaling to Fit in Excel 2010 (method 2)
  1. Choose File > Print
  2. Choose Fit all columns on one page
  3. Print your spreadsheet
Both methods will scale your spreadsheet so it prints out exactly one page wide. The number of pages it prints will depend on how many pages tall the scaled down spreadsheet is. Excel will ignore any vertical page breaks you've inserted when you do this, but will keep your manual horizontal page breaks.
Of course, if you want the spreadsheet to print out just 1 page tall, and as many pages across as it needs, you'd reverse the values in steps 2 and 3 of method 1 above.
Scaling to fit in other versions of Excel (PC and Mac)
You can get the same result when printing from other versions of Excel for both PC and Mac. This tip works in Excel 2010 as well, but the instructions above are an easier way to do it.
  1. Open Page Setup.
  2. Click the Page tab.
  3. Click the Fit To option.
  4. Enter 1 for the number of pages wide.
  5. Delete the value for the number of pages tall and leave it blank.

WinSetupFromUSB – Install Windows XP from USB Flash Drive

This guide will show you, how to use WinSetupFromUSB to create a bootable USB Flash Drive including all Windows source files, plus the following installation of Windows XP. Compare to the different USB_Multiboot versions, WinSetupFromUSB comes with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) and is in my opinion easier to use.

Here you can get the latest version of the program and you will also find many detailed informations about WinSetupFromUSB.
I’ve tested this guide with a 32-bit version of Windows XP and a 64-bit version of Windows Vista and it worked flawlessly.

Prerequisites:

All you need is:
  • a USB Flash Drive with at least 1GB of storage
  • the original Windows XP Setup CD
  • WinSetupFromUSB
If you use nLite to slim down your version of Windows XP, please keep the following in mind:
DO NOT remove “Manual Install and Upgrade”
under Operating System Options!
I also recommend to integrate Service Pack 3 into your Windows XP source files.

1. Preparations

Download and install WinSetupFromUSB. Default installation path is C:\WinSetupFromUSB.
Create a new folder with the name WINXPCD in the root directory of drive C:\ and copy all files from your Windows XP Setup CD into this folder. Depending on your version of Windows XP, the content of C:\WINXPCD should look approximately like this:
Content of WINXPCD
The following files will show you, which Service Pack is already integrated into your CD:

4. Format USB Flash Drive

PeToUSB or HP Format Tool are used to format the USB Flash Drive. There is no need to download these programs seperately as they are already included in WinSetupFromUSB.
USB Flash Drives up to 2GB should be formatted with PeToUSB in FAT16, USB Flash Drives with 4GB or more with HP Format Tool in FAT32.
I will use PeToUSB to format my Kingston Data Traveler with 2GB.
In the main window of WinSetupFromUSB click PeToUSB under Format target using to start the program. The USB Flash Drive should show up under Destination Drive. Check USB Removable, Enable Disk Format and Quick Format. Uncheck Enable File Copy under File Copy Options :
PeToUSB
Click Start and answer the following two questions “Continue?” with Yes.
All existing volumes and data will be lost!
If everything goes well, the message “Operation Completed Successfully!” should appear. Click OK and close PeToUSB.
The process with HP Format Tool is similar.

5. Copy Windows XP Source Files

To start the process of copying the Windows XP source files to the USB Flash Drive, click GO in the main window of WinSetupFromUSB. Depending on the write speed of your USB Flash drive it may take a while to copy all files.

A Guide to the “IRQL Not Less Or Equal” Blue Screen of Death Error

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL means one of two things: driver issues, or a bad Windows Service caused by a backup utility or antivirus scanner. This is a similar, but different error to the previous one we discussed, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, so much of this guide will be familiar.

Driver Issues

Sometimes the additional information on your Blue Screen will list the specific driver causing the problem, but this isn’t always the case.
If it does list the driver, you’re going to want to disable it. If it doesn’t list it, read below.
Disabling a specific driver is tricky, but here’s how you do it.

Disable the Problem Driver

To track down the specific problem driver, you’ll need to run Driver Verifier, an application included with Windows.
  1. Click Start
  2. Type verifier in the box and press Enter
  3. Select Create Standard Settings, then click Next, then select Automatically Select all Drivers Installed on this Computer
  4. Click Next, then Finish
  5. Reboot your computer, and you will see the list of drivers to be verified during startup. If there is a faulty driver you will get a BSOD with its respective error message
  6. You can then identify the driver listed and uninstall it when you log back into Windows
  7. When you have determined the faulty driver, log back into Windows and you can uninstall the driver via the Device Manager (see below)
  8. Next, you will want to disable the Driver Verification so it doesn’t always check on startup.
  9. Click Start and type verifier /reset
To disable a driver once you’ve identified it:
  1. Restart your PC in Safe Mode in order to avoid any further Blue Screens of Death while you’re trying to take care of the problem
  2. Click Start
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Click Device Manager
  5. Click the arrow next to individual devices, right click on the device, and click Properties
  6. click Details to see the driver name. If you see any devices with a yellow exclamation mark, you’re on the right track, but this will not necessarily be the case
  7. Additionally, try doing a CTRL + F on the Windows desktop for the driver name to see what folder it’s in; this will provide a clue as to what device the driver belongs to
  8. Once you find the offending driver, click Uninstall from that same Properties screen
  9. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver itself from information it provides from the Internet. This is called Plug and Play. Allow it to do so
  10. Run Driver Reviver to update the new driver to the most recent version

Run Driver Reviver

Alternatively, run Driver Reviver first, and see if updating your drivers to the latest version takes care of the problem.

Faulty Windows Service

Sometimes, this error will occur when a backup utility or antivirus scanner makes changes to Windows that it doesn’t like. If you’ve installed and run such an app lately, you’re going to want to reboot in Safe Mode and uninstall it. If that doesn’t work, restore to a Restore Point that’s just before you installed said app, and use a different app instead. We’ve got recommendations for reputable backup utilities as well as antivirus scanners.

Convert and Save PowerPoint 2010 Presentation or Slideshow in Windows Media Video (WMV) Without Third-Party App

Prior to the release of Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2010, users of older versions of PowerPoint such as PowerPoint 2007, PowerPoint 2003, PowerPoint XP, PowerPoint 2000 and PowerPoint 97 will need the help of third-party software programs to save and convert PowerPoint presentations as video or to CD and DVD. However, for PowerPoint users who want to convert or save the presentation in a video format, PowerPoint 2010 has made it easy.

PowerPoint has been widely used to prepare presentations, animations, slide shows and multimedia for work, commercial, training education, government, leisure and many other purposes. On many occasions, PowerPoint users will want to save the presentations created as a video file, as the presentations in proprietary PowerPoint file format such as PPT, PPTX, PPS and etc requires a computer with PowerPoint program or PowerPoint Viewer (download PowerPoint Viewer 2010 and PowerPoint Viewer 2007) installed.
By converting the PowerPoint presentation to video, users can upload and share the presentation video or slideshow easily on Youtube, Facebook, MySpace and other video sharing sites. Video can also be burned to CD, DVD or Blu-Ray disc for distribution or playback on TV. And video files can be directly played by increasingly popular HD media player for playback on LCD TV.
In PowerPoint 2010, users no longer need any third party software application to save presentations in video format anymore. PowerPoint 2010 includes built-in support to save presentation as Windows Media Video (wmv) video format. Windows Media Video encoding is widely supported, thanks to built-in codec support by Windows operating system.
Here’s how to save a presentation as WMV video in PowerPoint 2010:
  1. In PowerPoint 2010, click on File tab, then click on Save As
  2. PowerPoint Save As
  3. In the “Save As” dialog box, select Windows Media Video in “Save as type” drop down list.

Save PowerPoint Presentation as WMV Video
  4. Enter a file name for the video, and click on Save button.
  5. A video creation progress bar will be displayed on PowerPoint’s status bar. Once process completed, the video can be played in Windows Media Player right away. PowerPoint 2010 Save As WMV Video
