Tips to remove new folder exe or regsvr exe or autorun inf

Image

Manual Process of removal

I prefer manual process simply because it gives me option to learn new things in the process.

So let’s start the process off reclaiming the turf that virus took over from us.

1. Cut The Supply Line

1. Search for autorun.inf file. It is a read only file so you will have to change it to normal by right clicking the file , selecting the properties and un-check the read only option
2. Open the file in notepad and delete everything and save the file.
3. Now change the file status back to read only mode so that the virus could not get access again.
4.Image
5 Click start->run and type msconfig and click ok
6 Go to startup tab look for regsvr and uncheck the option click OK.
7 Click on Exit without Restart, cause there are still few things we need to do before we can restart the PC.
8 Now go to control panel -> scheduled tasks, and delete the At1 task listed their.

2. Open The Gates Of Castle

1. Click on start -> run and type gpedit.msc and click Ok.
2.Image
3. If you are Windows XP Home Edition user you might not have gpedit.msc in that case download and install it from Windows XP Home Edition: gpedit.msc and then follow these steps.
4. Go to users configuration->Administrative templates->system
5. Find “prevent access to registry editing tools” and change the option to disable.
6. Opening the gate of castle: Group Edit Policies
Image
7. Once you do this you have registry access back.

3. Launch The Attack At Heart Of Castle

1. Click on start->run and type regedit and click ok
2. Go to edit->find and start the search for regsvr.exe,
Image
3. Launch the attack in the heart of castle: registry search
4. Delete all the occurrence of regsvr.exe; remember to take a backup before deleting. KEEP IN MIND regsvr32.exe is not to be deleted. Delete regsvr.exe occurrences only.
5. At one ore two places you will find it after explorer.exe in theses cases only delete the regsvr.exe part and not the whole part. E.g. Shell = “Explorer.exe regsvr.exe” the just delete the regsvr.exe and leave the explorer.exe

4. Seek And Destroy the enemy soldiers, no one should be left behind

1. Click on start->search->for files and folders.
2. Their click all files and folders
3. Type “*.exe” as filename to search for
4. Click on ‘when was it modified ‘ option and select the specify date option
5. Type from date as 1/31/2008 and also type To date as 1/31/2008
Image
6. Seek and destroy enemy soldiers: the search option
7. Now hit search and wait for all the exe’s to show up.
8. Once search is over select all the exe files and shift+delete the files, caution must be taken so that you don’t delete the legitimate exe file that you have installed on 31st January.
9. Also selecting lot of files together might make your computer unresponsive so delete them in small bunches.
10. Also find and delete regsvr.exe, svchost .exe( notice an extra space between the svchost and .exe)

5. Time For Celebrations

1. Now do a cold reboot (ie press the reboot button instead) and you are done.

Windows 7 Tips & Tricks

1. Use Keyboard Shortcuts

Using the mouse, you can drag-‘n-dock windows to either side of the screen, or drag it to the top to maximize it. These keyboard shortcuts are even faster:
  • Win+Left Arrow and Win+Right Arrow dock the window to the left and right side of the screen
  • Win+Up Arrow and Win+Down Arrow maximize and restore/minimize
  • Win+M minimizes everything
  • Alt+Up, Alt+Left Arrow, Alt+Right Arrow navigate to parent folder, or browse Back and Forward through folders in Explorer
  • Win+Home minimizes/restores all open windows except the active window
  • Alt+Win+# accesses the Jump List of program number ‘#’ on the taskbar

2.Rearrange System Tray Icons

SystemTray
You can rearrange icons on the taskbar as you wish and start new (or switch to running) instances of the first ten taskbar programs using Win+1, Win+2, and so on. The cool thing is you can also rearrange system tray icons. Reorder them on the tray or move them outside or back in the tray. Take control of what you want to always keep an eye on, and from which apps you’ll require notifications.

3. Access Jump Lists with the Left Mouse Button

Jump Lists usually show up when you right-click on a taskbar icon. However, they can also be accessed by holding the left mouse button and dragging upwards. If you’re using a laptop touchpad or a touch screen, this is convenient because you do not have to click any button to access a context menu.

4. Add Any Folder to Favorites

AddToFavorites
You can add any library or folder to the Favorites section in Windows Explorer. To add a folder, navigate to it in Explorer, right-click Favorites in the left navigation pane, and select Add current location to Favorites. Now you get quick access to your favorite folders in all File->Save As dialogs!

5. Pin Frequently Used Folders to the Taskbar

Right-click, drag, and pin your favorite folders to Windows Explorer on the taskbar. They will now show up in the Jump List when you right click on Explorer giving you quick access to your favorite folders.

6. Pin Control Panel to the Taskbar

PinControlPanel
You cannot pin the Control Panel to the taskbar via the Start Menu or by drag and drop. Open the Control Panel and right-click its taskbar icon to pin it to the taskbar. An advantage of this is that Control Panel’s Jump List allows quick access to recently used functions.

7. Create Keyboard Shortcuts for Programs

You can create keyboard shortcuts for any program in Windows 7. Right-click the program icon and select Properties. Select the Shortcut tab, click in Shortcut key, to set the keyboard shortcut for that program.
ProgramShortcutKey

8. Open Command Prompt in Any Folder

Like the command prompt? Miss the ‘Open Command Window Here’ Windows XP power toy? Press ‘Shift’ when right-clicking on a folder to get that option in the context menu. This also works on the desktop. No power toy required!
ExpandedContextMenu

9. View Expanded ‘Send To’ Menu

Press Shift when right-clicking on a folder to get an expanded Send To menu.

10. Adjust Screen Text with Clear Type

Use Clear Type Tuner for the best look on your LCD monitor or laptop screen. Run ‘cttune.exe’ from the Start Menu search box, or go to the Control Panel Display applet, and select Adjust ClearType Text from the left.
ClearType Tuner

11. Get Exact Colors On Your Screen

If you are an artist or you work with colors, use the Calibrate Color option in the Control Panel Display applet or run dccw.exe from the Start Menu search box. You can adjust gamma, brightness, contrast, and color balance, ensuring that colors are displayed correctly on your screen.

12. Customize the Power Button

If you restart your computer more often than you shut it down, change the default Shutdown power button to Restart. Right-click on Start, select Properties, and choose the Power button action that you use the most.
StartMenuProperties

13. Customize Number of Items in Jump Lists & Start Menu

Right-click Start, select Properties, click Customize and choose the number of recent programs to be shown in the Start Menu and the number of items displayed in Jump Lists from the Start Menu Size section below.

14. Search Internet from the Start Menu

SearchInternetStartMenu
Enable Internet search from the Start Menu using your default browser. Run GPEDIT.MSC from the Start Menu search box to start the Group Policy Editor. In the left pane, go to User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Start Menu and Taskbar. In the right pane, right-click to Edit and Enable Add Search Internet link to Start Menu.
SearchInternet

15. Add Videos to Start Menu

Windows 7 does not place a link to your videos on the Start Menu by default. To add a link to your videos on the Start Menu, right-click Start, select Properties, click on Customize. In the Videos section at the bottom, choose Display as a link.
Add Videos

Remove the Internet Explorer Content Advisor Password

Problem

The Content Advisor in Internet Explorer is a fine example of good intentionssometimes leading to undesirable consequences. As users surf the Web under thewatchful Content Advisor's eye, there will likely come a point where therestrictions imposed will become undesirable, even if only temporarily. However, users wanting to disable the Content Advisor will sometimes find themselvesbarred from making changes because they have forgotten the required password.Fortunately, this annoying little problem can be solved quickly with a WindowsRegistry edit.

Solution

Edit the correct Windows Registry key

Removing the Internet Explorer Content Advisor Password from its Windows Registry key will disable all of the restrictions. If you have ever edited the Windows Registry, the procedure will seem quite familiar. However, if you are new to the experience, don't worry”as Registry edits go, this one is fairly painless. (Always back up the Windows Registry before you begin editing.)
Here is the basic procedure:
  1. Open regedit.exe (usually performed via the Run command).
  2. Navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Policies\Ratings
  1. Right-click the key and delete it.
  2. Open Internet Explorer and navigate to Tools | Internet Options | Content.
  3. Disable Content Advisor. (Enter a new, more easily remembered password if you want.)
This simple Windows Registry hack will disable the Internet Explorer Content advisor and return Internet Explorer to its default state.

Add Hotmail & Live Email Accounts to Outlook 2010

Add Your Hotmail Account to Outlook
Now you’re ready to add your Hotmail account to Outlook.  If this is the first time you’ve run Outlook 2010, you’ll be greeted with the following screen.  Click Next to proceed with setup.

Then select Yes and click Next again.

If you’ve already got an email account setup in Outlook, you can add a new account by clicking File and then selecting Add account.

Now, enter your Hotmail account information, and click Next.

Outlook will search for your account settings and automatically setup your account with the Hotmail connector we previously installed.

If you entered your password incorrectly previously, you may see the following popup.  Re-enter your password and click OK, and Outlook will re-verify your settings.

Once everything’s finished and setup, you’ll see the following completion screen.  Click Finish to complete the setup and check out your Hotmail in Outlook.

Welcome to your Hotmail account in Outlook 2010.  You’ll notice a small notification at the bottom of the window notifying you that you’re connected to Windows Live Hotmail.  Now your email will synchronize with your Hotmail account, and your Outlook calendar and contacts will be synced with your Live calendar and contacts, respectively.  This is the closest you can get to full Exchange without an Exchange account, and in our experience it works great.  In fact, Hotmail Sync seems to work faster than IMAP sync for us.

Setup Hotmail With POP3 Access
If you need to access your Hotmail email account but don’t want to install the Outlook Connector, then you can add it with POP3 sync.  We recommend going with the Outlook Connector for the best experience, but if you can’t install it (eg. you’re not allowed to install applications on your work PC) then this is a good alternative.
To do this, follow our tutorial on setting up a Gmail POP3 account in Outlook. Although the article concentrates on Gmail, the settings are essentially the same. The only thing you’ll want to change is the Incoming and Outgoing mail server.
  • Incoming mail server – pop3.live.com
  • Outgoing mail server – smtp.live.com
  • User name – your Hotmail or Live email address
  • Incoming Server (POP3) – 995
  • Outgoing Server (SMTP) – 587
  • Also, check This server requires and encrypted connection
Just as in the Gmail example, select TLS for the type of encrypted connection.  Then, on the bottom, make sure to uncheck the box to Remove messages from the server after a number of days.  This way your messages will still be accessible from your Hotmail account online.

Conclusion
Even though Hotmail is generally not as popular as Gmail, it works great with Outlook integration.  If you’re a heavy user of Windows Live services, or want to try them out, Outlook Connector is the easiest way to keep your desktop activity synced with the cloud.  If you’re just one of the millions of Hotmail users who want to access their old Hotmail account alongside their other accounts, this method works great for you too.

Fixing "BOOTMGR is missing" Error While Trying to Boot Windows 7 or Vista

If your Windows 7 or Vista computer has encountered the dreaded “BOOTMGR is missing” error, you aren’t alone. If the problem isn’t hardware related you can fix it with relative ease as long as you have a Windows DVD handy.
If you don’t have one, you can create a Windows Vista repair disk using our guide.
image
Boot off the Windows Vista DVD and then click Next at the first prompt:

You should see a link in the lower left-hand side for “Repair your computer”

The installation process will attempt to find your Vista installation directory. If there’s more than one in the list, select the correct one and then use the Next button again.

Click the first link for “Startup Repair”

The installation process will repair the system, and then prompt for you to reboot.

Alternatively you could have chosen the Command Prompt option instead, and use the following command to fix the boot options only:
bootrec /fixboot

At this point you should be able to reboot your computer, remove the DVD and everything should be working. If not, then head over to our forums and ask your question there. We’ve got some top-notch geeks over there!

Domain Password Change Policy In Windows 2008

a very important note if you have remote domain users. before enabling a password change policy, and your remote users ( outside your network ) have not changed their domain passwords for a long time, then you need to notify them to change their password before enabling the password change policy. otherwise they will not be able to access their e-mail ( if any ) or any other network resources they access on the network, because their domain accounts will be locked out. if you want to test your password change policy before implementing it, make sure all users are set to “password never expires” in AD:
image
also, before setting up and enabling a domain password policy you need to have already defined the type of policy you want to enforce. normally the requirements for such policies come from outside IT per organizational requirements. for example, before you start playing with the domain controller you should already have at least the following info:
  1. password age requirement
  2. minimum password length
  3. will you enforce users to include complex characters and symbols on their passwords?
  4. etc.
if you already have that info, then login to to your domain controller server, and open the Group Policy Management Editor. right-click on the Default Domain Policy and select edit. expand the Windows settings folder, and navigate to security settings. under Account Policies click on click on Password Policy:
image
once you click on the password policy applet on the right side of your screen, you will have the following 6 policy settings:
  1. Enforce password history on this policy you can set how many new passwords a user needs to use before he/she starts reusing an old password again. is always a good idea to set this number to at least 3. there are many users that keep reusing known passwords over and over again, just because is easier for them to remember.
  2. maximum password age this is the main policy. enter the number of days a domain password can be used before AD enforce the user to change the password . for example, if you want your users to change their password every 3 months, enter 90 on this policy.
  3. minimum password age on this policy you can specify how many days a password need to be used before the password can be changed again. set it to 0 if you want to allow users to change passwords immediately.
  4. minimum password length in this policy you need to specify the minimum password length you want your users to use. it is recommended to at least enforce users to use 6 characters on their passwords.
  5. password must be complexity requirements this policy is tightly integrated with the previous policy. it is highly recommended to enforce users to use a minimum 6 characters password, and include special characters, numbers, and symbols in it.
  6. store passwords using reversible encryption. This security setting determines whether the operating system stores passwords using reversible encryption. most of the time this policy is left as disable.
your overall password change policy should look like this:
image
now enforce the policy from the group policy management editor. right-click on the default domain policy object, and click on Enforced
image
that should enforce the password change policy throughout your network. pat yourself on the back, you’re done… now expect the phone to start ringing because some users cannot login to their computers.. is all good.

How to Block Facebook on Windows 7 Home Computer

As you don’t have proxy servers at home, we have to do it in other ways. 5 methods available here, take which one suites for your and others (blocking for them).

Methods to Block Facebook on Windows 7 Home Computer.

1) Block it on Internet Explorer. – Method 1

You can easily block websites on Internet explorer 8 on Windows 7. To do it,  Go to Tools – > Internet Options and select content tab.

How to Block Facebook on Windows 7 Home ComputerClick on Settings.  Go to Approved Sites tab and type facebook.com and press Never button.

How to Block Facebook on Windows 7 Home ComputerIE8 will prompt for Content advisor password, give a good password which can not be guessed by others.  Still it is not done.
Go to General tab and make sure to select ‘ Users can see websites that have no rating’ option under User options. if you don’t select this, most of the sites will stop working no matter approved or denied sites.
Contend advisor should be enabled, once its enabled you can view screen as below.

disabled_contentadvisor
Now its done. when ever some body try to access facebook on internet explorer 8, it will pop up for content advisor password to allow particular site.

Problems with method

1) This works only with Internet Explorer. If your computer is having other browsers such as Firefox, Chrome or Safari then this is useless.
2) Your other party will know its blocked by some body ( it’s you!) and they will irritate you for the password or remove the block( you can disable password popup under settings) because its your home, not office.
3) There is a method to remove content advisor password without knowing it. Don’t worry I’m not going to tell how it is.

2) Block it in Host file. – Method 2

This is very simple method and no body will know this. Before any internet browser access web sites, it checks the DNS entry in Host file which is in your computer. if no entry found for specific website, then it goes to ISP ( Internet Service provider) to get the IP address.
So, what we will do now is, enter facebook entry on Windows 7 host file with wrong IP address.
Any browser find this entry and try to load from the IP address which is completely wrong. Finally facebook will not load ( that is what we wanted). To do it, Make sure you have administrative privilege to edit this host file.
Go to following location and open hosts file in notepad or any text editor.

hostfile

127.0.0.1                     login.facebook.com
127.0.0.1                     www.facebook.com
127.0.0.1                     blog.facebook.com
127.0.0.1                     apps.facebook.com
127.0.0.1                     en-gb.facebook.com
Type IP address and Press Tab key then type above addresses. 127.0.0.1 is the local host IP.
Restart the machine and try facebook, it will not work. This method will stop any browsers to access facebook.com.

Problems with this method

If other party have administrative access and know about host file entry, then this method is not valid as they can simply remove these entries.

3) Block it on your Internet Router. – Method 3

This is more technical and limited because it  depends on your ADSL router. It can vary  for each routers, therefore I cant tell where to find it. Mostly under security (WAN) you can find some options to block websites with IP addresses or specific words.  These are the IP address of facebook.com
69.63.181.11
69.63.181.12
69.63.189.11
69.63.189.16

4) Block Facebook with Parental Control in Windows 7. – Method 4

This method mostly suitable for kids.  If you are looking to block only facebook website then I suggest to use Internet explorer content advisor as mentioned in method 1.  Filtering and blocking websites by windows 7 parental control is more complicated and advanced.
This feature is not a built in component, you have to download Windows Live Family Safety from Microsoft site here.
While installing make sure to select  Family Safety check box.
